Boxing

Boxing is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves and other protective equipment such as hand wraps and mouthguards, throw punches at each other for a predetermined length of time in a boxing ring. Boxing is also present at the Olympics and other global competitions.

The NWU Mahikeng boxing team trains at the Great Hall and hosts tournaments at the same venue and at the Student Centre. Both the men and women teams have been doing exceptionally well. Their achievements include: USSA team representatives and Region 5 USSA representative, provincial representative, produced the NW Best Coach in 2018 and 2019, USSA Best Coach in 2017, 2018 and 2019, best male and female newcomer 2018 and 2019 (provincial), best individual sports code in 2015 and 2019, best overall sports code in 2018 and USSA Champion in 2018 and 2019, NWU Sportswoman of the Year in 2015, 2016 and 2017, North West Province Sportswoman of the Year in 2019, and nationally qualified coaches.
