Football! The world’s most beautiful game as we know it, has been a major sporting code across the world in uniting so many people from different cultural backgrounds. The same can be said about soccer/football at the NWU Mahikeng Campus as our teams are a true resemblance of the rainbow nation with so many players from across the country and Africa. The 3 football teams on the campus have an indoor gym facility and 4 football fields to make use of.
The NWU soccer teams (Men and Women) have been doing well to raise the flag of the university and the Soccer Institute were crowned Varsity Football winners in 2019. In their recent history they have been USSA 2010 Champions, USSA 2017 3rd Place finish, USSA 2018 2nd place finish, USSA 2019 2nd place finish and Nedbank last 32 in 2019/20 season. The team has also produced players that have gone on to play in the South African Premier Soccer League. Three players from the 2019 team were signed by sides in the Glad Africa Championship and Premier Soccer League. The regional SAB League side has had top 5 finishes the past 5 seasons. The Women's side were Team of the tournament in 2019 at the USSA tournament. The team was also Bronze Medallists at the same tournament.
Soccer Ladies won USSA 2023 and their accolades:
- Team of the tournament, Goal keeper of the tournament, Player of the tournament, team manager of the tournament
- First team won 2022 North West ABC Motsepe League
