Mahikeng Campus facilities
The Mahikeng Campus offers excellent sports facilities, which include a soccer institute, swimming pool, outdoor facilities and an indoor sports hall. The Soccer Institute and the Great Hall each has a well-equipped gymnasium for circuit and aerobic training.
The Great Hall also caters for badminton, martial arts, squash, boxing, dancesport, indoor soccer and hockey, volleyball, netball and basketball.
The Campus has three multipurpose courts, four tennis courts and two basketball courts. In addition there are four soccer fields, a rugby field, a softball and a cricket pitch.
The swimming pool is a perfect venue for students to learn to swim as well as to improve their different swimming strokes.
Potchefstroom Campus facilities
Fanie du Toit Sport grounds
The NWU has one of the most beautiful and well-equipped sports grounds imaginable. The Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds cover approximately 20 hectares on the banks of the Mooi River, which is within walking distance of the Potchefstroom Campus. Here you will mainly find the outdoors sports activities, with eight rugby fields, 16 tennis courts, four hockey fields, nine all-weather netball courts, three soccer fields, five cricket fields, a softball field, a swimming pool and an athletics track. In the Piet Malan Building there is also a fully equipped gymnasium, one of two on the grounds.

High Performance Institute of Sport
The well-equipped NWU FNB HPI building on the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds houses the School of Biokinetics, Recreation and Sport Science, the Institute for Sports Science and Development, the North-West Sports Academy, the offices of NWU PUK Sport, and also the NWU PUK Rugby Institute. The building also contains an extremely advanced gymnasium with a rehabilitation swimming pool and an ice bath.
NWU Sports Village
Working in collaboration with the FNB High Performance Institute of Sport, the PUK Sport Bureau and the North-West Cricket Union, this is the perfect facility for sports groups and training camps. We strive to make it your “home away from home”. This facility is not only of a high standard, but the location of Potchefstroom (altitude above sea level) makes it the ideal place to present training camps.
The PUK Sports Village is a non-self-catering facility and consists of:
- Five accommodation blocks with 16 rooms each
- Two conference rooms
- Function facilities
- Two physio rooms
- A four-lane 25 m heated swimming pool
- A fully licensed restaurant and bar
Vanderbijlpark Campus facilities
The Vanderbijlpark Campus has three rugby fields.
