Tennis at the NWU has evolved into a physical chess match in which players attack and defend, exploiting angles and technical weaknesses with strokes of widely diverse pace and spin. Tennis can be enjoyed by players of practically any level of skill. Top competition is a demanding test of both shot making and stamina, rich in stylistic and strategic variety.
Having merged with the NWU Potchefstroom Campus, the RVTA is the largest tennis academy in South Africa. Combining intense court training with a custom‐designed academic curriculum, boasting world-class facilities and services, it is the perfect place to train to become a champion.
Vision and mission
- To manage and promote the interests of tennis at the NWU
- To develop healthy sportsmanship.
- To establish a proper organisational structure for tennis.
- To acquire and properly spend funds in accordance with the University policy.
Bursaries
Every year a number of first years are admitted to the NWU PUK Tennis programme from bursary applications that have been received. The closing date for applications is 31 August. The players who have not received bursaries may qualify for a bursary during the following year based on their performance throughout the year. Bursary awards are made possible by funding from the University itself. Applicants should carefully scrutinise the terms and conditions on which bursaries are awarded.
To be selected for the NWU PUK Tennis programme, a player must be registered with the North-West University Potchefstroom Campus for a degree or diploma of their choice.
